Ski Weekend
That’s my friend, Jenn! This past weekend I tagged along with her and her husband to go skiing at Camelback Mountain in Pennsylvania. I was terrified as we drove up, since the temperature wavered between 12 and 15 degrees. But on the mountain the sun was out and it wasn’t windy, so it ended up being perfect skiing weather. I hadn’t skied in two years, so it was nice to get back out there. I always forget how much I love it!
Seeing Jenn on the terrain park definitely wants me to give snowboarding a shot. It’s “supposedly” easier to do tricks, and I’ve busted my fair share of a**es trying to do them on skis. Since I’m already a good skier it would probably be frustrating to start from scratch.....buuuuut, I’d be willing to give it a shot if I got to take jumps like these. (Don’t worry...you’ll get video.)
Muchas Felicidades Rafa!
Muchas felicidades go out to the tennis great Rafael Nadal tonight. After having rain delays on and off for two days, he finally pulled out the championship win at the US Open, defeating #2 in the world, Novak Djokovic, in 4 sets. For those not familiar with tennis, I bet you’re thinking, “So what? Isn’t he the #1 tennis player in the world and wins tournaments all the time?” Well, yes...but up until this point, the US Open was the only major tennis tournament that he had not conquered. This makes him the 7th tennis player in history to win every major tournament, and the first since 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open in succession.
And if that isn’t enough to impress you...he was then handed a check for $1.7 million dollars. Maybe I should go practice now...
Super Bowl 2010
Last night was Super Bowl XLIV (that’s 44 to everybody else who believes that Roman numerals are stupid). You had the New Orleans Saints - led by Drew Brees - against the Indianapolis Colts - led by Peyton Manning. I established on the way over that I was going to be cheering for the Saints - mainly because I love the city of New Orleans. So, congrats to my team! You guys played great! I’ll even throw in a “Who dat?!?!”
As I have for the past 3 years, I watched the game over my friends Danny and Stephanie’s apt. They have people over every year, and their friend Maria makes meatballs and sauce from her father’s recipe. It’s quite possible that I look forward to those more than the actual game.
Then, there’s the commercials...and I have to say...this year’s crop of ads were TERRIBLE. There are only 3 that I enjoyed, which you can find in the Hulu panel below or go here.
• Mars’ Snickers - “You’re not yourself when you’re hungry”. PLEASE NOTE: I only liked this one because it contains Betty White...and we all know that she’s my moon goddess.
• Volkswagen - “PunchDub”. The beginning part of this commercial was kinda cute, but nothing too special. It’s the Tracy Morgan/Stevie Wonder segment at the end that I got a kick out of.
• TruTV - “Troy ‘Punxsatawney’ Polamalu”. I’m a fan of all things mini-sized.
Roll Mexico Roll!!!
I wanted to share a video that makes me miss two of my favorite things in the whole world...white cheese dip from Mexican restaurants in the South, and Alabama football. Good luck tonight, boys! I’ll be cheering you on to another National Championship!
Mark Ingram: Bama’s First Heisman Recipient
On December 12th, 2009, the University of Alabama football program had its first Heisman recipient. Mark Ingram - who is only finishing up his sophomore season as tailback - finished 28 points ahead of Stanford running back Toby Gerhart. It was the closest vote in Heisman history.
“The legacy of Alabama football certainly had a void filled,” Tide coach Nick Saban said. Bear Bryant led some of college football's greatest players - from Joe Namath to John Hannah, Ken Stabler to Ozzie Newsome - but none had ever finished in the top three of the Heisman voting over his more than three decades at Alabama.
SEC Champions 2009
For those who know me, one thing is clear: I am a University of Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. I've been going to football games and sports camps there ever since I was a little girl. My best friend, Natalie, and I would be the happiest girls alive when her dad took us to football games. Which, luckily for us, was as often as possible. I moved to NY over seven years ago and haven't been to a game since. But every Saturday, you can find me sitting in front of a tv, cheering my team on...and usually dragging one of my “Yankee” friends with me. (Sorry Patrice.)
Last Saturday, after completing our season with a perfect record of 12-0, we (#2) won the SEC Championship against Florida (#1) 32-13! Next up? On January 7th we take on Texas for the National Title! I'll try not to have a heart attack. ROLL TIDE!!!
